About Me

Sophie Lai is a New York Based artist pursuing a professional dance career in contemporary dance. She graduated May 2022 with a BFA in Dance at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts with minors in Business of Entertainment, Media and Technology and Social and Cultural analysis. Her technical facilities include training in ballet, contemporary, improvisation, modern, Hip Hop and African dance. With experience with dance on film, acting and singing.     

 Sophie has recently trained at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. She has trained at various intensives including B12 dance festival in Berlin Germany, WADE Dance Hub in Agropoli, Italy, Alonzo King Lines and Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School. She's trained with various companies at NYU's summer residency including Gibney Dance Company, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, David Dorfman Dance Company and Evidence Dance Company. She was trained under her mentor Norman Walker, former director of Jacobs Pillow. 

She's performed repertoire from Complexions Contemporary dance company and original work by Yin Yue, Paul Blackman and Christina Gouzelis. Her artistry resides through utilizing dance as an outlet for individual movement discovery and a possibility to create social change through art.
